A collar helps in taming your pet, so you can go on adventures together. The pet will bring you gifts when you cut out objects on expeditions.

You can get the collar if you open a certain number of slots in the Treasure Hunt with an active Golden Compass. Please note that each pet should have its own unique collar. Only that way can you travel together :)
